Today Clarke’s Gas Services is an award-winning company with outstanding values and receiving fantastic feedback from customers just like you.
Let me take you back to October 2016 winter was just about to begin, which was the worse for me. My days consisted of waking at 5 am to carry out paperwork, leaving the house at 7am and returning 12 hours later for dinner only to go out again for a few hours to fix more appliances. I’d get home at 10pm and sit at the computer again till 12 to complete more paperwork. Ready to go again at 5.
I was exhausted all the time; my family didn’t know who I was. I was a stranger in my own home. And my customers where suffering as well. This was not how my business was supposed to be!
So, picture this, I’m servicing a boiler that was supply the heat for a swimming pool. The cool blue water looked so inviting and late autumn sun was shining on my back. I knew I had 6 jobs still to do and that if I was lucky, I might get home for 7pm. At that moment I was low, customers were unhappy with my service, my wife was unhappy because she didn’t see me, my children didn’t know me, and I was just existing. It was at that moment when I had a phone call from a Kiwi named Pete, he was a business coach that had called a few times, but I was dismissive, what could he possibly know about my trade! When I was on the phone with him, I told him if he wanted my business to call at 8pm as id be free to take his call. His response NO! ill be with my family.
NO! how dare he I thought. But that night as sat at my computer again doing work a tear rolled down my cheek. I was jealous. Pete was relaxing with is family and was not! I rang him the next day and I started being mentored.
Fast forward to now and Clarke’s Gas Services have a structured team of individuals both within the office and out in the field, delivering high quality service that is being recognised by business leaders in Kent, in fact we were awarded best construction business and were finalists for bust customer service in the canterbury awards 2024, and last year we were shortlisted for best construction business and best family business.
Today we've got a structured team that's recognised across Kent. We've won awards. But more than that, we've built Clarke's Gas Services on the exact promise that started it all. We look after you properly. We do the job right the first time. Because I know what it feels like when no one does!
We understand the making the move over to renewable technology seams a little daunting. These are some of the questions people like you have been asking.
Modern heat pumps are designed to operate efficiently in temperatures as low as -20°C. When designing a heating system, we carry out a full heat loss calculation, taking into account all heat-loss areas within the property, including floors, walls, ceilings, doors, and windows.
These calculations enable us to determine the property's heating demand and accurately size your heat pump. Once the heat pump has been correctly specified, we can then size the radiators throughout your home to ensure each room reaches and maintains the required temperature.
Our design calculations are based on an outdoor temperature of -3°C, together with industry-standard indoor design temperatures. Depending on the age and construction of your home, these typically range from 18°C in bedrooms to 21°C in living areas and lounges. This ensures your heating system is capable of maintaining a comfortable indoor environment even during the coldest periods of the year.
During periods of extreme weather, all heating systems can experience some reduction in performance and may struggle to maintain the desired indoor temperature. However, these exceptionally low temperatures occur very infrequently. Our systems are designed using an outdoor temperature of -3°C, which reflects the standard design conditions for this region and covers the vast majority of winter weather. Historically, temperatures below this level account for only a small proportion of the year—typically around 1% of annual weather conditions—so any shortfall in performance during these rare events is usually minimal and short-lived.
Yes, we will supply any radiators that need to be replaced as part of the installation. Our designs are initially based on high-quality standard panel radiators, as these typically provide the most cost-effective solution. However, if you would like to explore alternative radiator styles, such as designer radiators, column radiators, or fan-assisted emitters, we would be happy to discuss the available options and work with you to find a solution that best suits your home and personal preferences.
We can remove most oil tanks; however, the process can vary depending on the type, size, and location of the tank.
Before we can remove an oil tank, it must be emptied by your fuel supplier. This service will usually incur a charge, as any remaining oil is generally considered contaminated and cannot be reused or returned to stock.
For plastic oil tanks, some can be emptied and removed in one piece for recycling or processing at a licensed facility. Others may require de-gassing and cutting into sections before disposal.
Metal oil tanks follow a similar process. Smaller tanks can often be removed whole, while larger tanks typically need to be de-gassed, cut up on-site, and removed in sections.
If you have LPG cylinders, these can usually be returned directly to your gas supplier.
For bulk LPG tanks, you will need to contact your supplier to arrange their removal. This is normally carried out once our installation work has been completed and the tank is no longer required.
We will be happy to discuss the requirements for your specific tank and advise on the most appropriate removal and disposal process during the survey stage.
Whilst no two homes are ever the same, factors such as insulation levels, roof construction, window types, and the presence or absence of cavity wall insulation can all have a significant impact on a property's heating requirements.
However, based on our experience, we have often found that when an existing boiler and oil tank are reaching the end of their service life and require replacement, an air source heat pump system can compare very favourably on overall cost. In many cases, once the costs of a new boiler, oil tank, associated pipework, and installation are taken into account, an air source heat pump can actually prove to be the more cost-effective solution while also providing a modern, low-carbon heating system for the future.
Every property is different, which is why we carry out a detailed survey and heat loss assessment before making any recommendations. This ensures that the solution we propose is tailored specifically to your home and heating requirements.
In terms of running costs, we will provide a comparison between your existing heating system and a proposed heat pump system. Using your current energy source and annual energy consumption, we can calculate your estimated annual heating costs and compare these with the projected running costs of an air source heat pump.
This comparison will give you a clearer understanding of the potential savings and ongoing operating costs, helping you make an informed decision. We can also take into account current energy tariffs and system efficiencies to provide a realistic estimate of the costs associated with running your new heating system.
